The Hart Family History
The following research has been contributed by Lewis Hart who has done a wonderful job documenting this family. We cannot thank him enough for his major contribution to our family history. The above picture is of his parents on their wedding day in 1929.
Generation No. 1
1. ROBERT2 HART (UNKNOWN1)1 was born 1793 in Virginia. He married DORCAS/DARKEY HARRIS, daughter of UNKNOWN. She was born 1799 in Virginia.
Notes for ROBERT HART:
According to records found, it shows that (2) Robert Hart was born in Virginia between 1793 and 1810. He married in Virginia and he and his wife came to Russell County, Kentucky about 1820. The census records shows that their first child was born in Russell County, between 1820 and 1825.
There was only three persons that came from Virginia to Russell County, Kentucky. There were Robert Hart and his wife and the sister of Robert Hart that was around 14 years old, and did not marry until she was around 35 years old, see marriage record (3) Elizabeth Hart. Elizabeth died 8/12/1854. Her daughter (10) Sarah Ellen Popplewell married and left Russell County, Kentucky and she came back after her husband and two children died. She and her oldest daughter came back to live with her father and went into a business together when her father got to old to work. He kept the business records and she did the work. They were still in the business on 6/1/1900. They were partners in the business.
Robert Hart and his wife and sister settled in the Eli Community, when they came to Russell County, Kentucky.
The Popplewell families came into Adair County, Kentucky (later became Russell County, Kentucky) somewhere between the middle and the end of the Revolutionary War, or about 1790. Russell County, Kentucky did not exist until December 14, 1825.
Barret Popplewell, his four brothers, his father, his mother had died, and his grandfather and grandmother were the only persons in the popplewell family that was living in Russell County, Kentucky when Robert Hart and His wife and sister came to Russell County, Kentucky. The Popplewell's was already living in the Eli Community area.
Elizabeth Hart, Robert Hart's sister, married Barrrett Popplewell. Barrett Popplewell is a brother to the second great-grandfather of Lee Michael "Hood" Wells. Barrett Popplewell was the oldest known Popplewell to live in Russell County, Kentucky.

Notes for FOUNTAIN HART:
Fountain Hart and Susan Mary Satterfield had two children together while Fountain was married to Susan Mary Satterfield's mother, Esther B. Hart (Satterfield). It is not known if Esther knew about the children or not. My grandfather, Elihu Hart, was given the name Elihu Satterfield and lived with Susan Mary's older sister, Sarah Ellen Satterfield and her husband Daniel Zimmerman. He kept the last name of Satterfield until he was at least 23 years old. Elihu's brother, Shrieval Satterfield, kept the last name of Satterfield. He was named after his grandfather, Shrieval Hodge Satterfield. Shrieval Hodge Satterfield was Susan Mary Satterfield's father. It is not known at this time if there were other children between Susan Mary Satterfield and Fountain or not. It is not known what happened to Susan Mary Satterfield. Fountain Hart was in the Russell County Jail in the 1880 Census.He was charged with murder but was not found guilty.He was charged in Nov 1878. The court was continued a number of times. There were two mis-trials. The third trial ended in a verdict of not gulity. That was on May 26, 1881. It is believed that he spent most of that time, if not all of that time, in the Russell County Jail.
