John DOVE was a prominent farmer and owner of property from 1770 onwards, when he was allocated about 230 acres of land after the Enclosure Award. Most of his land was in the Bourne and Cawthorpe areas.

After his death c1800, he left his property to be divided between his 3 sons, Hargate, John and Thamas. Hargate died about 10 years later, and he left his share to his brother John. John died a few years later and in his will of 1818, after generous bequests to his son John Hurn DOVE, he entrusted the remainder of his properties to be sold.
