CAMPBELL, EMMA FRANCES nee GIBSON

 

Emma Frances Gibson was born on 13 November 1871 at Normanby, the second daughter of Henry George and Elizabeth Gibson nee Treweek, early settlers, and was educated at Wanganui convent.

 

Following her marriage at Eltham to Archibald Laing Campbell in 1896, she took up residence on Fraser Road, where she lived until almost her death.

 

Emma had a wide sphere of social activity at Fraser Road centred upon the Fraser Road Hall of which she was one of the founders, as well as supporting her husband in his public life as chairman of the Eltham County Council and Hawera Hospital Board.� She was prominent in the work of the Hawera Pipe Band and her culture was reflected in her love of music as an accomplished pianist and in her appreciation of art as a painter and an enthusiastic worker in various arts and crafts.

 

Emma Frances Campbell died on 5 September 1944 at Hawera and is buried at the Hawera cemetery.
