Contact.   Is a small village, in the parish of Cornwood and hundred of Ermington; 205 miles from London, 11 from Plymouth, 12 from Totnes, and 13 from Ashburton. It derives its name from a small bridge, which is covered with ivy, and stretches across the river Erme. This village is beautifully situated in a romantic dell; and from its rattling river, wooded accompaniments and picturesque scenery, excites the admiration of every tourist of pleasure; but holds out no inducement to delay the commercial traveller. Upon the river is a paper-mill, and another for flour; and the village boasts an excellent inn, which indeed is necessary, from its great thoroughfare situation A small chapel of ease to Cornwood is the only place of worship; which parish contained, in 1821, 1,507 inhabitants.   POST OFFICE, Mark Bird, Post Master. -- Letters from London arrive at a quarter-past six in the evening, and are despatched at half-past seven in the morning. --A horse post is despatched at half-past five in the evening to Ugborough, to meet the Bristol Mail.     Gentry and Clergy.
