Annaretta George McNair |
Annaretta George McNair of Tarkio, MO was born in 1875 to Joshua J and Lucy Ann Burk, (see here)
and was about 5 when her mother, Lucy Burk George, died in March of 1880, apparently from complications with the birth of baby Tobias George.
Annaretta's mother's death followed fast after the births and deaths of Bubby and Minnie George, the 2 youngest of 11 children. Bubby died in 1877 and Minnie in 1878 before they were a year old. I think newborn Tobias may have died with his mother in 1880. So Annaretta grew up as the youngest surviving child of her father Joshua, who was twice widowed and raising his second family, probably with the help of older children. Annaretta's daughter, Jenny Sollars, said that about 1913 Annaretta's children, Jennie, Gilbert, and Edward McNair went to live with Jim George in Hopkins, MO. Jim George was one of Annaretta's first cousins. Her father and Jim's father, Reuben Andrew George, were brothers. The boys ran away but Jenny stayed until about 1919. |
