In his life time he worked in many glasshouses in New Jersey,and Ohio and at one time was part owner of a glasshouse outside Pittsburg,PA. At the time he was living in Pittsburghis first wife Dorothea died and he married again. Returning to New Jersey he worked in the glasshouse in Millville. Later he owned a confectionary shop in Millville. He also served as a Justice of the Peace. James was very active in both social clubs and political affairs. He was the first mayor of Millville holding the office three years. He was President of th Mount Pleasant Cemetery Co. James and Rebecca were parents of six Children.
