CASSINGHAMS in America

John Cassingham (Sr.) is one of our Mystery Kin.
His family seems to have arrived in the U.S. between 1840-1843 in a second migration of Cassinghams. They settled in Coshocton County, Ohio (a county adjacent to Muskingum County where Thomas and his family settled in 1818).
Though we have not been able to prove a relationship between the Thomas Cassinghams and the John Cassinghams, we are convinced one exists.

John Cassingham (Sr.) was born about 1790, probably in England. He died 10 May 1848 at the age of 58 in Virginia, Coshocton, Ohio and was buried there in the Adams Mills Cemetery.

While still in England, he married Elizabeth who was born in England about 1795/1796. She died sometime after 1880.

Children of John Cassingham (Sr.) and Elizabeth:

  1. Thomas Cassingham was born 20 Apr 1820 in England. He died 18 Aug 1862 at the age of 42 in Virginia, Coshocton, Ohio and was buried there at the Adams Mills Cemetery.
  2. Sarah Cassingham was born 25 July 1823 in England.
  3. Ann Cassingham was born about 1828/1829 in England.
  4. Jane Cassingham was born about 21 Feb 1830 in England.
  5. Frederick Cassingham was born about 1 Aug 1834 in England. On 10 Sep 1862, he married Sarah Cross in Muskingum County, Ohio. He served as a Private in F. Company, 97th Infantry Regiment, Ohio during the Civil War. He apparently died in action 1 or 4 Jul 1863 at the age of 28 in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee. He probably had no children.
  6. Charlotte Cassingham was born about 1835 in England. On 7 Sep 1871, she married Michael Roth in Muskingum County, Ohio.
  7. John Cassingham (Jr.) was born about 27 Jul 1838 in England. He died 23 Oct 1867 at the age of 29 and was buried at Adams Mills Cemetery, Virginia, Coshocton, Ohio.
  8. Sophia Cassingham was born about Sep 1843 and died in Sep 1844. She is buried at Adams Mills Cemetery, Virginia, Coshocton, Ohio. She may have been the first of this family to be born (and to die) in the U.S.
