Notes for John BINGHAM
Followed his older brother George Joseph to Lake Co, IL where they were both living by 1850. Listed as a farmer with $1200 real estate in 1850 (Lake Co., IL Census, p. 20). Arrived in LeRoy, Bremer, IA in 1855, settled on parcel 24 (Hist of Bremer Co)

Has land in sections 15, 24, and 26 of LeRoy Twp in 1875 (1875 Atlas of Bremer Co). His second wife was the mother of his daughter Mary Jane’s husband.

John's brother George and his brother James both married Warners. Unknown if there is a connection to his second wife Jane. James settled in Winneshiek Co, IA. He also married Sarah Horton, who is likely a sister to John's third wife Charlotte Horton Ditmar. James lived next door to his (likely) inlaws William and Olive Horton. A visit to him was perhaps how John met Charlotte.

Obituary notes for John BINGHAM
Died: At his residence in Sumner, Iowa, on July 6, 1881, John Bingham, aged 69 years, 4 months, and 10days.
John Bingham was a native of Vermont. In 1834 he married, and emigrated to Illinois, where he remained till 1856, when he came to Iowa and settled in Leroy township, Bremer county, on the present Bingham farm. In 1875 he left his farm and removed to Sumner, where he has since resided. He was for many years a member of the U. B. Church, but in '72 he joined the M. E. Church with which he remained until his death. He was a useful and highly esteemed citizen, and a man honored for his uprightness and integrity. The funeral services took place at the residence, Rev. Keeler, D.D., officiating, and the remains were laid at rest in the Wilson Grove
Cemetery.
Notes for Sally HEAD
"Sally" is on the census in 1850 and seems to be the mother of the 7 youngest children. Her full name appears in the profile of John in the first Bingham book (1927), which also correctly noted that he was a postmaster in 1866. Sally Head is also the name given as the mother on son Melvin’s death certificate.
