Named in his grandfather's will with brother Elijah. They received land on the North side of West River.
[687]Will names sons Abraham, Luther, John, Hezekiah and Joseph (last four under age), and two daughters Huldah and Susannah. Luther, Huldah and Joseph are listed in marriage record as being children of Joseph (Huldah and Joseph being in N. Providence), as is Orpha. In 1774, Joseph, Jr. indemnified the town of North Providence for the bastard child of Robe Hawkins by Levi Hoppen. (RI Gen Reg. - N. Providence town records). Assuming Robe was fairly young, and that Orpha married when she was in her early 20s, they would be the youngest daughters. It therefore seems possible they were left out of Joseph's will on those grounds (I haven't actually seen the will, just the abstract, so it's difficult to know what the language was.)
There are no other Josephs, except for his son, found in any will or record in the RI Gen. Reg. or in the RI Vital Records collection by Arnold.
Husband’s will mentions brother-in-law Hezekiah Smith - husband of her sister Rachel.
