Notes for Johannes Wetzel
In 1774, John became a King’s Justice and in 1775 a delegate to the Provincial Conference of jun 18th. In 1777, he was appointed lieutenant of the county. In that position, he was said to have made arbitrary decisions that caused hardship for the Moravians and other non-resistant sects. He had been brought up as a Moravian, but came to disagree with their view that disagreements could be resolved peacefully. [786]

In 1790 credited with the founding of the East Macungie Union School in the Lower Macungie Township. Johanna was still living when her daughter Elizabeth’s son was baptized in 1800 but was not named in her husband’s 1809 will. 6 sons and 4 daughters. [786]
