Notes for Daniel EDMUNDS
Daniel Edmunds died September 20, 1889 at 2 a.m., 73 years, 5 months and 8 days. He was born in Chautauqua County, New York April 12, 1816 and came to Illinois in 1836. He always delighted to tell of his early pioneer experiences and hardships. He was twice married. In 1848 he married Eliza J. Logan by whom he had six children, four of whom are still living. His wife died in 1858 and in 1860 he was married to Harriet Summers by whom he had three children, only one of whom, Mrs. S. G. Miller is now living. He cared nothing for political honors, but served one term as county judge. In 1856 he joined the Christian Church but during the exciting scenes of war differences arose among them and he ceased to act with them and since that time we believe had not identified with any church organization. He was a strong opponent of slavery, was a man of massive brain and great mental power. He could quote whole passages from the sermons of several prominent divines that he had heard during his life. He was very industrious, persevering, energetic and had therefore secured unto himself a sufficient competence of this world's goods. The funeral was preached by Rev.
