FULTZ GENERATION 1


-GEORGE FULTZ
Very little is known about George. He was believed to be the owner of a tavern during the Revolutionary War period in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He probably died there also. Family tradition says that he was called "Whistling George" and his wife was called "Limping Kate", probably because of a limp that she had.
I believe that the issue below is theirs.

-WILLIAM FULTZ
He married DIANNAH. William's will, dated 7 Oct 1813 and proved 16 Jan 1815, suggests that her family name could have been ROBERTS. In his will, William names a brother-in-law, ENOS ROBERTS and a niece, ELIZABETH GARLINGTON. In his will dated 12 Mar 1834 and proved 2 Sep 1835, ENOS ROBERTS mentions his niece ELIZABETH SARAH HARVEY and two nephews JOHN ENOS FULTZ and THOMAS WEBSTER GREEN. The given name "Enos" will continue to be used in the Fultz, and later in the Ballentine, families. They had, at least, issue below.

She married WILLIAM SPARKMAN. They had at least three children: 1) Peter Fultz, 2) Susanna Jane, married Mr. Ray, and 3) Mary Ann.

-ELIZABETH SARAH FULTZ
She was born in about 1810 and died in 1844. She may have married THOMAS WEBSTER GREEN, suggested above in the will of ENOS ROBERTS.

-JOHN ENOS FULTZ
He was born in St. John's Berkeley Parish, South Carolina in 1812. In 1840 he married RULANEY BALLENTINE. She was a daughter of JOHN J. and RULANEY BALLENTINE. She was born in 1823 in St. James Goose Creek Parish, South Carolina. In the 1850 Census for St. John's Berkeley Parish (page 397) he is listed as a farmer with a real estate value of $1000. His will is recorded in Charleston County, South Carolina will book 1815, vol. 32, pages 917-918. They both died in St. John's Berkeley Parish. He died in 1858 but her date of death is not known. His wife, Rulaney did outlive him. After his death she married WILLIAM AUSTIN and had at least one child. John Enos and Rulaney had issue below.

- SARAH DIANA FULTZ
She was born about 1841 in St. John's Berkeley Parish. She married JOHN MIDDLETON PARKER in about 1857. He was born in St. John's Berkeley Parish also. He died about 1867 and she died in July 1911 in Summerville, Dorchester, South Carolina. They had the following children: 1) Ellen Dora, married Flavius Joseph Stokes, 2) John William, 3) Jane Lillie, married Russell Aubrey Stubbs, and 4) Sarah Ellen.

-ELLEN E. FULTZ
She was born about 1844 in St. John's Berkeley Parish. She married first THEODORE JOHN STOUDEMAIER. The spelling can also be found as STOUTAMIRE. He probably lived 1790/94-1864. She married second SAMUEL WILLIAM ROURK. He was born about 1832 in St. Matthew's Parish in the Orangeburgh District of South Carolina. He was the son of SAMUEL ROURK and FLAUNIA ENNIS. They had probably the following children: 1) Frank Lee, married Daisey Murphy, 2) Shuler E. married John Murphy, 3) Mattie, 4) Ruby, 5) Pet, married Hampton Bradley, 6) Julia, married Thomas Murphy or Owens, 7) Laura, married Peter Murphy and 8) Benjamin.

-JOHN ENOS FULTZ, JR.
He was born November 12, 1944 in St. John's Berkeley Parish. After returning from the Civil War, he married first, on May 11, 1865 SARAH ELIZABETH BALLENTINE, a daughter of JOHN JAMES and MARY ELIZABETH (HUXFORD) BALLENTINE. She was born August 30, 1846. In late 1865 the family packed up and left Moncks Corner in Berkeley County, South Carolina and headed for Florida. On June 16, 1888. Sarah died and is buried in Cocoa-Rockledge, Florida. Soon after his home burned. He again packed up and started a settlement called "Spruce Bluff". I have a lot of information on his time there working as a grover and later moving, in 1905, to Ft. Pierce, being appointed by then Governor Broward to serve as the first Circuit Court Clerk for the newly formed St. Lucie County. On June 27, 1892 he married ANNIE MARIA WINTER. She was born October 31, 1868, a daughter DAVID McCANTS and MARY FULTZ (HARVEY) WINTER. John Enos suffered a stroke and died on December 7, 1921 in Vero Beach, Florida. She died there on April 23, 1938 and both are buried in Oslo Cemetery in Vero Beach, Florida. They had issue below.

-THOMAS FREDERICK FULTZ
He was born in August 1845 in St. John's Berkeley Parish. He married first, JANE. He went west to live and little is known about him. They had the following children: 1) John William, 2) Sarah Packer, married Eddie Schiebe, 3) Cynthia V., 4) Laura Caroline, married John William Burton, and 5) Thomas T., married Carrie A. Wragge. He married second, Ms. SINGLETARY. They had: 1) Julius Frederick, married Mary Ann Dawson, and 2) James Edward.

-MARY JANE FULTZ
She was born about 1848 in St. John's Berkeley Parish. She married ROBERT McCANTS. They had the following children: 1) Sallie, married Mr. Shokes, 2) Julia, married Mr. Kennedy, 3) Robert, Jr., 4) Mary, 5) Hattie, married Mr. Muckenfuss, and 6) Laura, married Mr. Morgan.

-CYNTHIA O. FULTZ
She was born about 1851 and apparently never married.

-GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS FULTZ
He was born October 2, 1852 and married JULIA CYNTHIA BALLENTINE on February 24, 1876. She was born August 14, 1858 in Charleston District, South Carolina, a daughter of JOHN JAMES and MARY ELIZABETH (HUXFORD) BALLENTINE. He died march 5, 1887 and is buried in the Wassamassaw Baptist Cemetery in the Wassamassaw Section of Berkeley County, South Carolina. After his death she married WILLIAM J. AUSTIN. She died November 14, 1929 and is also buried in Wassamassaw Baptist Cemetery.

-JOSHUA GEORGE HENRY FULTZ
He was born about 1854 and died in Jesup, Wayne, Georgia. He married ANNIE and no further in known of him.

-RULANEY R. FULTZ
She was born August 2, 1856 and married JOHN WESLEY ORVIN in 1878. He was born March 13, 1854 in Bonneau, Berkeley, South Carolina. She died November 19, 1880. He died December 17, 1916 and is buried in Rheboth Methodist Cemetery in Macbeth, Berkeley, South Carolina. They had at least these children: 1) Maxwell Clayton and 2) Emma Estelle. Maxwell Clayton Orvin was a noted South Carolina author and historian.

-JULIA OLIVIA FULTZ
She was born April 28, 1866 in St. John's Berkeley Parish. She married on March 28 1882, JAMES HARVEY WINTER. He was born January 7, 1858 in South Carolina, a son of DAVID McCANTS and MARY FULTZ (HARVEY) WINTER. He came to Florida in 1892 and settled on Winter's Creek near Spruce Bluff. His sister married John Enos Fultz, Jr. She died June 17, 1929 and he died August 3, 1930 in Stuart, Martin, Florida. Children omitted for privacy reasons.

-GEORGE ANDREW FULTZ
He was born June 6, 1868 and apparently never married.

-JUDSON HUXFORD FULTZ
He was born March 20, 1870. On December 24, 1899 he married HATTIE ESTES. He died in 1943 in Sweetwater, Nolan, Texas. Children omitted for privacy reasons.

-SARAH ELLEN FULTZ
She was born July 5, 1872 and apparently never married.

-HATTIE EULALIE FULTZ
She was born May 2, 1876 and married Mr. ALLEN. After his death in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she married Mr. CHEW. She also died in Philadelphia and nothing further is known of this family.

- VIOLA GERTRUDE FULTZ
She was born March 7, 1878. On June 30, 1896 she married EDWARD LEE WINTER in Spruce Bluff, Brevard, Florida. He was born August 10, 1874 in Florida, a son of DAVID McCANTS and MARY FULTZ (HARVEY) WINTER. She died July 19, 1906 in Spruce Bluff and is buried there. After her death, he married second, ZADA E. BALLENTINE, (See Ballentine) a daughter of ANDREW and CATHERINE WOOD (HARVEY) BALLENTINE. After her death, he married third, MARY ANN "MAIME" TINDALL COLEMAN. Children omitted for privacy reasons.

She was born April 12, 1880 and apparently never married.

-JOHN ENOS FULTZ, III
He was born February 20, 1882. On December 15, 1913 he married RUBY COOPER. He died August 1, 1956. Children omitted for privacy reasons.

-PEARL WINTER FULTZ
She was born March 13, 1893 in Spruce Bluff. On February 5, 1921 she married ROSCOE J. CHAPMAN. He was born March 13, 1890 in Braceville, Ohio. She died June 19, 1952 in Vero Beach and is buried in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, Florida. He died January 21, 1953 in Florida. Children omitted for privacy reasons.

He was born December 15, 1896 and never married.

-ANNIE ETHEL FULTZ
She was born November 26, 1899 in Spruce Bluff. On June 1, 1922 she married HOWARD TAYLOR. He was born November 5, 1893 in Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia. He died in Ft. Pierce in 1966. She died October 19, 1982 in Ft. Pierce and both are buried there. Children omitted for privacy reasons.

He was born October 16, 1901 and never married.

-THOMAS OSCAR FULTZ
He was born November 28, 1903 in Spruce Bluff. On October 12, 1929 he married OLA JANE BRINSON. She was born April 29, 1908, a daughter of JOHN RICHARD BRINSON and LULA RAINES. She was born in Swainsboro, Emanuel, Georgia. They were married and lived in Vero, Indian River, Florida. He died there October 20, 1983 and is buried in Oslo Cemetery in Vero Beach, Florida. -JAMES CLARENCE FULTZ
He was born November 28, 1903 in Spruce Bluff. On June 9, 1930 he married ALICE MARGARET GREGORY COOK. She was born October 10, 1910 in Adel, Cook, Georgia, a daughter of CHARLES E. COOK and ALICE MAUD DAVIS. They were married in Palmetto, Manatee, Florida but later moved to Washington State. He died on March 15, 1978 in Richland, Benton, Washington and is buried in Desert Lawn Cemetery in Kennewick, Washington. She died November 18, 1989 and is also buried there.
