COXes in Logan Co. Ohio

Early OHIO Counties and Some COXes

It can be a brain teaser to follow the changing names of a locality. In Ohio, for example, Washington County (formed 1788) and Hamilton County (1790) were two of the original counties before Ohio became a state in 1803. Adams Co. was created from Hamilton in 1797. Ross Co. was formed from Adams and Washington in 1798. Greene County was formed from Hamilton and Ross in 1803. Franklin Co. was formed from Ross in 1803. Champaign Co. was formed from Greene and Franklin Counties in 1805. Logan County was formed from Champaign Co. in 1818. While we're at it, Hancock and Wood Counties were formed from Logan in 1820.
It is a challenge to figure out where your ancestors actually lived and moved. Sometimes we discover that they didn't move at all, but rather the state or county names changed.

In the meantime, here are some mentions of Cox people early in the Ohio territory from a variety of sources.
