HOME GENERAL INFORMATION PLACES BURRA WAR MEMORIAL
The Burra war memorial is a marble column topped with a 2.4 metre bronze
statue of a digger with bayoneted rifle.
There is a bronze wreath on each of the 4 corners of the granite base supporting
the column.
The foundation stone was laid in April 1921 on the occasion of a visit by the Governor Sir Archibald Weigall and Lady Weigall
The monument was unveiled in March 1922 by the Prime Minister, the Hon. W. M. Hughes
The plaque on the east face contains the insignia of the Australia Commonwealth Military Forces and the words : " This memorial is erected by the people of this town and district in honour of their sons who died for King and country in the Great War 1914 to 1919"
The plaque on the south face lists those names as :
