I found Matthew L. Aamot's research on line at Ancestry.com. you can reach him at - [email protected] - This is what the researcher has to say about the lines he researched, this included John N. Rupe. I am collecting all records for the Cox, Hutton, McConnell, and Wood families that were early settlers of Steady Run Township, Keokuk County, Iowa in the 1840s. I have listed their ancestors and descendants as I have found the information.

John N. Rupe is my descending Rupe line, it immediately ends and Wilkinson's take over, where other Rupe lines begin again. Search carefully, many facettes to the Rupe line. Bobbi Stockton

A LAMENTABLE AFFAIR__Wm. P. Rupe fatally injured by a Runaway Team.__His subsequent death, and burial by the Odd Fellows__On Thursday, the 8th inst., Mr. William P.
Rupe of this place, and his son Andrew, were unloading some wood from a wagon to which the old gentle-_man's team of two horses were attached, when an accident occurred the result of which has left a deep impress of sadness upon the community. As the owner of the team was descending from the wood on to the double tree, his foot slipped and a stick in his hand struck one of the horses at which the team became frightened and dashed off with great speed. The team ran across the road and over the sidewalk. The wagon struck the corner post of a fence, breaking the post in twain and smashing the wagon generally. Andrew Rupe, being on the wagon at the time, was precipitated to the sidewalk and received quite a cut on his hand, and either by the kicking of the horses or being run over by the wagon, or both, his father was fatally injured, being bruised and wounded upon the head, face and left side. He was taken home as soon as possible and his wounds dressed by Dr. G.W. Newman. He was affectionately attended by the physician, his afflicted family and many kind friends, who did all in their power to alleviate his sufferings and aid his recovery, but his injuries were both complicated and serious, culminating in his death at 10 O;clock A.M. May 15, 1873._William P. Rupe_was an old citizen of Bethany, having resided here about fifteen years. He was born in Pennsylvania, in 1811, and after leaving that State lived in Ohio, Indiana and Iowa, respectively. He had been a member of the Odd Fellows'_fraternity since 1863, and we have heard it stated that during all that time he never missed a dozen of its weekly meetings. His remains were buried by that order, last Friday, with the fullest honor._Deceased leaves a wife and six children to mourn his violent death. He was not a man of wealth, but made his living by the sweat of his brow, and in his 62nd year, while at labor, he received the injuries that caused his death._But one thing will be said by all who knew him--He was an Honest Man._We never yet heard one person say that William P. Rupe wronged him out of a cent. Such a legacy to his children is of more value that millions of gold.may his ashes rest in peace.

Jason Gleason Wilkinson, was born 7 Dec. 1830, in Ohio, to Solomon Scribner Wilkinson and Charlotte "Packard" Wilkinson. He and his parents and family lived in Ohio for a number of years, as did several of his other relatives. Namely, Wilkinson's, Packard's, Bacon, Rupes, Mitchells and other's. When Jason was a young lad his parents with other's moved to the southern part of Missouri. (At this time the Rupe's moving to Indiana, then to Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa with some of the Wilkinson's.) Jason and his parents and family moved to Harrison County in the late 1840's. Jason being a young man at this time. On the 25th of April 1855, at the age of 23 years, he was married to Julia Ann Rupe, by the Justice of the peace, James Hughes, at Centerville, Appanoose County Iowa. She was 18 years of age and the daughter of John N. Rupe of Centerville, Iowa. Julia Ann was born the 10th of March 1836, in Indiana. After their marriage they came to Harrison County, Missouri to make their home. Although they returned to Centerville, Iowa and bought a town property the 22nd of September1858 and lived there a short time, one would say the state of Missouri was mainly their home. They bought a farm of 41 acres more or less, in Sherman township, Harrison County, Missouri. Found in book 4 of Land Transfers in Bethany Court House, Bethany, Missouri. Also the 10th of September 1866 in Bethany Township, N.W. of Betheny in Township No. 63 Jason and wife bought some more land. I believe there was more buying and selling but did not record it. Jason Gleason and Julia Ann became parents of the following children:

      1. Charlotte Elizabeth (Lib)b. 22 July 1856 Bethany, Missouri
      2. Laura Jane (Jane) b. 18 Jan. 1858 " "
      3. Chester (Chet) b. 17 Apr. 1860 " "
      4. Mary Ann b. - Apr. 1864 " "
      5. Sophronia Francis(Fronia)b. 3 Nov. 1865 " "
Although the family of Jason Gleason Wilkinson bought a town property in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa the 22 of of Sept. 1858, they were back in Missouri for the birth of their son Chester, who was born 17 Apr. 1860. (According to Census Records.) Also see copy of property Deed in book.' The family lived near Gardner, Harrison County, Missouri, just a few miles northeast of Bethany, Missouri. Here the older children attended school and where Laura Jane and her husband to be, met. (William Orsen Adams). According to the 1860 Census, John N. Rupe, father of Julia Ann, made his home with his daughter and family. From different information we have gathered, John making his home with Julia Ann and Elizabeth making her home with children living in Iowa. Jason and family, according to the 1860 Census, lived at this time in Bethany township the 23 rd of June 1860. On the 10th of January 1869, Julia Ann passed away, Her youngest cchild, Siphronia Francis being just a little over the age of 3 years. Julia Ann is buried in the Dale Cemetery, Harrison County, Missouri. This left Jason Gleason with a family of small children to care for. Charlotte Elizabeth was old enough to work out. so she worked out from that time on until she was married. Her sister Laura Jane, stayed in the home of Jim and Kate Mitchell for awhile, then worked out. (worked out, meaning worked for wages for neighbors and different relatives...K Chester, was taken into the home of Josh Selby, Mary Ann, was taken into the home of her Aunt Permelia Wilkinson Bacon, and Sophronia Francis was rear ed in the home of Chester Bacon until her older sister's had a home of her own, then they took care of her as well as some of the brother;s and sister;s of her husbands. charlotte, or "Lib"and Laura Jane, or "Jane" were 13 and 11 respectively, when their mother passed away. These girls were to marry brother's Horace Anderson Adams and William Orson Adams, in a double wedding on the 5th of March 1879. The Adams brother's had also been left orphans with brothers of their own and to make a home for the younger one's in the families. They were a very close knit family. Another sister, Sophronia Francis, Fronia" Wilkinson married an Adams brother, Andrew Warren Adams. This making three brother's and three sisters marring into the same family. Needless to say , their children were double cousins, the next thing to brothers and sisters according to blood lines. Jason Gleason maintained a home for himself for a few years. He is found in the 1880 Census living alone. In the year of 1890, the 26th of March, he may have went to Nebraska with his children. If so, they lived near Broken Bow and Platt River. Returning home in September of the same year. On the 4th of November 1892, we find the three families moving to Oklahoma to make it their home. (We know believe there may have been other's that went with them.) These excerts taken from the Bethany "Broad Ax" News paper of the 5th August 1897. "Jason Gleason Wilkinson had a Claim in Oklahoma. (Note complete story in the W.C. Adams story...K) W.C. Adams and family who have been living in this county the past year, left tuesday for their former home near Kingfisher, Oklahoma". Jason, Jane and Fronia and families, left the state before the five years were up tp "prove up" on their claim, but it is believed that "Lib" and family remained to make the West their home. Jane returned because of ill health. Jason G. made his home with the different children and his grandchildren. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Jane the 14th of December 1906, near Bethany, Mo. He is buried in the Dale Cemetery, Harrison County, Missouri. He did have a tombstone but it is now broken and we were not able to find it. It has been seen by some of the great grandchildren, but it has been a few years ago. This taken from the Republican Clipper of "Bethany Nine Years Ago Dec. 15, 1906". Jason G. Wilkinson died friday of last week of Heart touble at the home of his son-in-law W.O. Adams in Cypress township, aged 76 years. As to date, 1978, we have not been able to obtain a death notice or obiturary of Julia Ann "Rupe" Wilkinson. We have been to the Dale Cemetery and taken a picture of her tombstone. Through friends and relatives of the fmily, we have obtained an orbiturary of Jason Gleason Wilkinson. Jason G. Wilkinson, one of the old pioneers of Harrison County, died last friday afternoon of heart trouble at the home of his son-in-law, W.G. Adames, (W.O. Adams) of Cyress township. He leaves a large family of children among who is Chester Wilkinson of this city. He was past 76 years of age and always a good citizen. He was a memeber of the Christian Church. Furneral services were conducted Sunday by Elder R.W. York after which the remains were consigned to their last resting place in the Dale Cemetery.
