2 Weather stormy. During night Aug 1st/2nd Nos. 3 and 4 Sections moved into Reserve positions in FOSSE 11 MAROC accompanied by Headquarters. [O.O. No. 74 attached] Nos. 1 and 2 Sections under Lts TUCKER and BAIN moved into J Battery Barrage Gun Positions. Relief by the 4th and 5th C.M.G. Companies was complete by 3 a.m.

3 Weather stormy. Sections in Reserve holding positions. Sections forming Barrage Battery at work on positions. During night 2/3 August the Sections in Reserve and headquarters moved to the transport lines SAINS-EN-GOHELLE reaching billets at 5.10 a.m. [O.O. No. 75 attached] 3rd inst. 8000 rounds fired on targets in LENS.
4 Weather stormy. Sections in transport lines resting. Sections in barrage Positions moved into line Positions in dugouts in CITE ST. PIERRE and took up usual indirect fire positions. 9,000 rounds fired on selected targets in LENS.

5 Weather stormy. Company holding indirect fire positions in the line. Sections at rest "Standing too". 14,000 rounds fired on selected targets in LENS.
6 Weather showery. Company holding positions. During night 6/7th Aug Nos. 3 and 4 Sections relieved Nos 1 and 2 Sections in the indirect fire positions. [O.O. No. 76 attached] Relief complete by 2 a.m. After relief sections moved to Transport Lines SAINS-EN-GOHELLE. 7000 rounds fired on selected targets in LENS.
7 Weather showery. Company holding Line Positions. Sections at rest "Standing to". 30,000 rounds fired on selected targets in LENS. Lt. C.V. Williams M.C. returned from Leave.
8 Weather showery. Company holding Line Positions. Sections at rest "Standing to". 27,000 rounds fired on selected targets in LENS.
9 Weather fine turning showery. Sections at rest standing to. Sections in line positions fired 30,000 rounds on selected targets in LENS.
10 Weather showery. Sections at rest standing to. Sections in the line fired 25,000 rounds at selected targets in LENS.
11 Weather showery. Sections in Rest Billets standing to. Sections in the line fired 30,000 rounds on selected targets in LENS.
12 Weather showery. Sections at rest standing to. Lieut. W.L. HARDIMAN proceeded to First Army School of Instruction HARDELOT. Lieut. E.R. ROBISON proceeded on leave to ENGLAND. Lieut C.V. WILLIAMS. M.C. assumed command of the Company. Sections in the line fired 30,000 rounds on selected targets in LENS.
13 Weather showery. Sections at rest standing to. During night 13/14th August the Company took up its battle positions. [O.O. No. 77 attached] Nos. 3 and 4 sections moved from billets at 2 p.m. and took up Reserve Positions in FOSSE 11 Maroc. Nos. 1 and 2 Sections moved into J Battery Positions M6 c 70.75. The move was complete by 10.30 p.m.
14 Weather showery. Sections in Reserve standing to. Also guns in J Battery Position. Lieut. W Tucker was the battery commander.
15 Weather showering. During the attack the guns of 'J' Battery fired at the rate of 5000 rounds per gun per hour from Zero (4.25 a.m.) to Zero + 40 on Barrage targets laid down. Battery then ceased fire and stood to. During the night 15/16th the battery fired 90,000 rounds on enemys rear country and in answer to S.O.S. signals.
16 Weather showery. Sections in Reserve standing to. Sections in J Battery positions fired 94,000 rounds on selected targets.
17 Weather showery. During the night 17/18th August Nos. 3 and 4 Sections relieved the 8 mobile guns of the 4th Cdn M.G. Coy. in the line positions. [O.O. No. 78 attached] This relief was great delayed by enemy shelling. No. 4 Section 6th Coy not being able to complete its relief until dusk evening of the 18th Guns in Battery position fired 92,000 rounds on selected targets. During relief Ptes E.U. Bishop and Campbell were killed.
18 Weather fine but cloudy. Sections in J. Battery barrage positions fired 100,000 rounds on selected targets. Mobile guns in forward positions holding the line and at work on emplacements improving same.
19 Weather fairly fine. J. Battery guns carried out intermittent fire according to instructions. Mobile guns standing to.
20 Mobile guns in forward positions prepared for pending attack. Guns of J. Battery fired 100,000 rounds on the enemy's rear lines and dumps.
21 Weather fair. During the attack, mobile guns in forward positions moved forward & took up new positions and prepared for any counter-attack. Guns in J. Battery positions fired at the rate of 4,000 rounds per gun per hour from ZERO on Barrage targets laid down, and on ceasing fire stood to. During night 21/22nd Aug. the battery fired 100,000 rounds on selected enemy positions.
22 Mobile guns in forward positions at work improving emplacements etc. Weather fine. Mobile gun crews also carried up ammunition to emplacements. Guns in J. Battery positions fired 100,000 rounds on selected targets - indirect fire.
23 During night 23/24th Aug. Two sections A and B of the 15th CMG Coy relieved two sections - 3 and 4. Mobile guns of the 6th CMG Coy. also the two mobile sections of the 6th CMG Coy carried up ammunition to emplacements. [O.O. No. 79 attached] On completion of relief 3 and 4 sections moved into rest billets in SAINS-EN-GOHELLE. Nos. 1 and 2 sections of 6th CMG Coy in J Battery positions fired 50,000 rounds on selected targets in enemy's rear.
24 Sections in reserve standing to. During night 24/25th Aug sections in J Battery positions fired 50,00 rounds on selected targets in enemy's rear, dumps, C.T's etc.
25 Major A. EASTHAM returned from CAMIERS and assumed command of machine gun Groups in the line as Group Commander 2nd Divl. Groups. Weather dull. During night the guns in J Battery positions fired 50,000 rds on selected targets in enemy's rear areas. Sections at rest standing to.
26 Weather dull. Sections in rest billets standing to. Guns in J. Battery positions fired 50,000 rounds on selected targets.
27 Weather stormy. During night J Battery guns fired 50,000 rounds on selected targets in enemy's rear. Sections at rest standing to.
28 Weather fine. During night 28/29th Aug sections in line withdrew to Billets in SAINS-EN-GOHELLE. [O.O. No. 80 attached] Move was completed by 4 a.m.
29 Sections in rest billets cleaning and overhauling guns equipment etc.
CAMBLAIN
L'ABBE
30 Company moved from SAINS-EN-GOHELLE to billets at CAMBLAIN L'ABBE for rest & training. Move was complete by 1 p.m.
31 Company training. Physical Drill, Squad Drill, Gas Drill, Lecture, and cleaning guns and ammunition. Afternoon was devoted to sports as per Divl. Order.
