The Henry PAYNE Story Chapter 2: Woodville & the Workhouse, by Brett Payne of Tauranga, New Zealand
My gg-grandfather Henry PAYNE (1842-1907) lived in Woodville for a short while in the late 1840s and early 1850s.  During this time, he and his mother had contact with several Woodville families, who may or may not have been related.  Other surnames mentioned - and of particular interest to me - include ATKIN(S), BAGNALL, BENFIELD, HALL, HO(U)LT, LUNN, SALMON, SWEET.  Henry was one of the pupils who formed the first intake of St Stephen's Daily & Sunday School, on Wednesday 1st March 1848 - follow this link to see his Scholar's Certificate.

CLARK family of Woodville
, by  Richard Fletcher of Bramhall, nr Stockport, Cheshire, England
Richard's great-grandfather, Abner (Archie) CLARK, was in charge of the Art & Glazing Department at Bretby Art Pottery under Henry TOOTH in the early 20th Century.  He had some talent as an oil painter, and ran classes from his home in Burton Road.  He was secretary of the Woodville Methodist Sunday School for many years, as well as some time organist, and was succeeded by his son, John William.  He died in 1940, aged 85.  Any information about him or the family would be most welcome.  Contact  Richard Fletcher for further details.
