Margaret Helfer was born 15 July 1814 in Vorderweidenthal, Germany. (1)
Her father died when she was 15. A few years later, at the age of 23 she emigrated
with three of her siblings and their mother to the United States. The passenger
list for the Ship Equator lists Charles "Fayock." Travelling with him are
Christina and her children: Margaret, Barbara and Henry, all listed under the name Fayock.
(2) Her sister Elizabeth Helfer was married to Charles Veiock.
Margaret married Georg Zimmerle in the Smithfield Church at
Pittsburgh on 28 Jun 1839. (3) And they are found the the 1740 census living in Lower St. Clair, Allegheny, PA
with one child. In 1847 they were in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY
where their son Philipp was born 4 Jan 1847. The family
then moved to Harrison Co, IN as did Margaret's sister, Maria Elisabeth Helfer
married to Charles Veiock. In 1853 Georg and Margaret sold their land in Harrison County, IN for $850
and moved to Olney, Richland, IL where George eventually became the owner of a
grocery store on Whittle Street. See page for George Zimmerle.
Her
husband died in 1892 after an illness of two years. He was 74. She
died the next year probably in Jan 1893. (4) He was buried next to her husband
in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney, IL. (5)

23 Aug 1837
Margaret Helfer's mother, Christina Groninger Helfer, was traveling on the Ship Equator on 23 Aug 1837 with her son-in-law, Charles "Fayock" who was married to her daughter Elizabeth, and and everyone was listed under the name of Fayock even though Christina's name was Helfer. The age given for her was 69 and she was actually 51. Her children: Margaret, Barbara and Henry were also listed (also under the name of Fayock. There was also a Jacob "Fayock" listed as age 8. He may have been another child of Christina Groninger Helfer. On the same ship was Andre Helfer, a possible nephew of Christina Hefter's husband, and Jacob Dutt who was 23 and later married Christina Helfer's daughter, Barbara Helfer, a sister of Margaret Helfer.
