"Jana" Nicholl was baptized on 4 Dec 1605 in Wrawby, Lincolnshire, England
with her father listed as Thomas Nicholl. (1) Her mother, Dorothy George, was
buried 20 Nov 1631 and her father, Thomas Nicholl, wrote his will three months
later on 16 Feb
1631/2 and must have died shortly thereafter as he was buried one week later.
In his will he left his "dau Jane Nicholl the leave of the house where I dwell."
He made his daughter Jane executrix of his estate. (2) She married "Mathew
Mowthrop" in Wrawby one year later on 13 May 1633. (3)
She and her husband, Matthew Moulthrop, had three children born in Wrawby and
then emigrated to the New England Colonies where a fourth child was born.
Her husband was recorded in New Haven, CT as early as 1639. (4) Her husband,
Matthew Moulthrop, wrote his will on 21 Dec 1668 and, according to the Barbour
Collection, died the next day leaving her the house, meadows, etc. Jane
lived another four years. She wrote her will on 26 Feb 1669 naming her son Mathew and daughters
Elizabeth and Mary. She also named Hannah and John as children of
her son Matthew. There was also a reference to William, Henry and
Hannah Luddington as well as an Abigail Tompson. (5) Her sister Ellen Nichol
had married William Luddington. According to the inventory record, Jane died 13
May 1672 which was her 39th wedding anniversary. The inventory was taken 7
Jun 1672 leaving an estate of £157 07 06.

pg. 410 "Matthew Moulthrop, the founder of the Moulthrop family in America, was b. in England; was at New Haven in 1639; d. 22 December, 1668. Admitted to First Church, New Haven, before 1644; m. in England, Jane, surname unknown, who d. in May, 1672, in New Haven. Wills of both are found in Volume I of the New Haven Probate Records. Matthew was prominent in the affairs of the New Haven and East Haven Colonies, in both of which he held office; he fought in the Indian Wars.
