John S. Hamilton

John S. Hamilton

John S. Hamilton was born 15 July 1846 in Tennessee. I am unsure at this time who his parents were. He married Elizabeth (last name unknown) about 1870 most likely in Tennessee. Elizabeth was born 7 March 1852 in Tennessee. Together they had the following children:

1. Stephen Hamilton c. 1872 TN
2. William Hamilton c. 1876 AR
3. Anna Hamilton c. 1878 AR (married Holloway)
4. Mary "Mollie" Hamilton c. 1880 AR (married Crawford)
5. Ernest Eli Hamilton 1885 Bloomer, AR
6. Calvin Frank Hamilton 1887 AR - 1958

John and Elizabeth Hamilton moved to Arkansas between 1873 and 1876. They were living in Franklin County Arkansas and the 1880 census shows them in Prairie Township. The 1890 reconstructed census shows the family had moved to Bloomer Township, Sebastian County. John (J.S.) Hamilton attended the Bloomer Baptist Church and served as messenger in 1890 at the Buckner Baptist Association meetings.

In 1910, the family was still living in Sebastian County, Bloomer Township. According to the census, J.S. Hamilton owned his home free of mortgage and was a farmer. John S. Hamilton died 31 August 1911. A year later, in 1912, Elizabeth remarried to S. S. Delaney in Franklin County, Arkansas. She was 60 years old and Mr. Delaney was 81. Elizabeth Hamilton Delaney died 19 Feb. 1920. Elizabeth and John Hamilton are both buried at the Morris Cemetery in Bloomer, Arkansas.
