Wayne County, NY Surrogates Court Record for Jesse Mead who died intestate, sworn by his son Jesse H Mead 6 January 1831. States that Jesse, his father, died at the town of Galen on 4 Sept 1830. That his goods, chattels and credits of the deceased will not exceed the sum of two hundred dollars: that he left no widow: that he left three sons besides this deponent (Jesse H Mead) residing in the County of Wayne, towit, Levi Mead, David Mead and James Mead. Subscribed by William H. Chapin, Surrogate 6 Jan 1831.

From the County Clerks Office, deeds, Wayne Co., NY (Wayne County was formed in 1823 from Ontario and Seneca Counties). But in the records vol. 68, page 442 there was mention of the settling of the heavily indebted estate and debts of Eliza (widowed) and Samuel Dill whereby "said piece of land was struck off to Levi Mead for $223.34. The date was May 25, 1815. And Levi was identified as living in the town of Galen, in Seneca County, NY at that time.

Wayne County, NY Surrogates Court Record for the will of Levi Mead. I Levi Mead of the town of Galen County of Wayne and State of New York being in health and of a sound minde, knowing my own mortality and the uncertainty of life, I make and constitute this my last will and testament, in manner following to wit. As to my temporal concerns after paying my just debts and funeral charges, I will an bequeath to my beloved wife Olive, one third of my real estate that I shall be possesed of at my deceased lying in the town of Galen County of Wayne and State of New York. I also will and bequeath unto my son Philander Mead eighty acres of lands in the State of Michigan, it being the east half of the south west quarter of section eight of township five (5) south of range five (5) west in the district of land subject to sale at Kalimanzoo Michigan containing eighty acres and the remainder of my property both personal and real to be divided equally amongst my sons and daughters that are hereafter mentioned as follows to wit, Malinda wife of Ephraim Page, Sarah Anne Mead, Olive A Mead Almira Mead, Emeline Mead David Mead Alonzo Mead and Jesse H Mead and the property not to be divided untill my youngest childe becomes of the age of twenty one years, the proceeds arising from the same is to defray the expenses of bringing up younger children and the surplus of any there should be is to be divided equal to the last division in this will and the sum of ninety dollars is to be deducted from Malinda Page's share and to be divided agreeable to the two last divisions of this will. I further constitute and appoint John Furlong and Moses Clark Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me. In interest whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty third day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three. Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above names Levi Mead to be his last will and testament, in the presence of us who have here herunto subscribed our names as witness. C H Brown of Galen Patrick Casaday of Galen At a Surrogate�s Court held at the town of Lyons in the County of Wayne [NY] on the twenty seventh day of April 1843, before James C Smith Surrogate of said county, for the purpose of proving and recording the last will and testament of Levi Mead late of the town of Galen in the said county, The will was contested by family memebers and 55 pages of testimony followed. Levi was not the father of Malinda Mead, but she was the daughter of his first wife, name unknown. Levi's second wife was Olive Graves, sister of Lemuel Graves, as was stated in the testimony. Several times in the testimony Levi's brother Jeremiah Mead from Oswego County, NY is mentioned. ( Excerpt from the testimony pertaining to Jeremiah: Another time I was there. He has a brother by the name of Jeremiah who lives in Oswego County. He was then there, sitting by Levi's back. He said to Levi, you know me don't you, I am your brother? Levi replied that he didn't know. Jeremiah asked "don't you know you have a brother in the Black River Country? You recollect me don't you! Levi answered "yes", I don't know but I do.)

Wayne County, NY Surrogates Court Record for will of David Mead aged eighty one years. He desires that his property should be divided and disposed of equally among his children as provided by statute in cases of intestacy. It was witnessed by James Cassidy and George Dickson on 25 Mar 1867. Proof of the Last Will and Testament of David Mead, deceased - Petition of Miles Mead of Galen in Wayne county shows that David Mead died a natural death on or about the 19th day of April 1870 at Galen. he left a certain instrument in writing, pruporting to be his last will which relates to both real and personal estate; that no one is named as executor thereof; that he left Christina Mead, his widow who resides in Galen, and that Mary A Falls of Concord, Jackson County, Michigan; Peleg Mead of Rose, Wayne Co., NY William Plumb and David Plumb (minors under the age of 21) whose place of residence is unknown and who have no general guardian in this state (NY) ; Francis Augusta of Troy, NY; Caroline Lester of Clyde, NY; Miles Mead of Middlebury, Shiawassee County, Michigan; and Julia Moore of Waterloo, NY are the heirs at law and next of kin to the deceased. That letters of administration be granted and that Thomas Robinson of Clyde may be appointed special guardian of said minors in the proceedings. Dated 4 May 1870 and signed by Miles Mead and notarized by S. C. Seecutan, Notary Public.

David Mead was then sworn as a witness on the part f the said Philander Mead, and testified as follows, that is to say. I reside in Galen. Levi Mead deceased was my brother. I lived within a mile of him. I saw him several times during his last sickness

Ann Mead was then sworn as a witness on the part of the said Philander Mead and testified as follows, that is to say: I knew Levi Mead deceased. I am the wife of a brother of his. I lived about three quarters of a mile from him. I was at his house a good many times during his last sickness. I was there the 28th day of February last. Was there frequently before that. He
Mapel Grove Cemetery Records show David Mead died 1870 and is buried on the same lot with his wife Anna, who died in 1861 at age 65 yrs.

Stephen Meads Will & Probate ?????? ?????? ???? the October Term of the Court held at the Court House in Norwalk within and for the County of Huron and State of Ohio on the Thirteenth of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty one Before the Judges thereof came Charles B. Stickney Counsel and presented to the Court for Proof and approval the last will and Testament of Stephen Mead late of Fitchville in said County Deceased. Which said Will and proceedings thereon and in the words and figures following towit: Will I Stephen Mead of Fitchville Huron County and State of Ohio do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid. I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Hannah Mead in lieu of her dower the farm on which we now reside situated in the Township County and State aforesaid containing about one Hundred and twenty two acres of land during her natural life if so long she remains my widow. And also all my live Stock horses cattle hogs, ? by me now owned and kept on the farm aforesaid shall be the property and at the disposal of said Hannah Mead after satisfying all legal claims against my Estate likewise all household furniture and such other items not particularly named or otherwise disposed of in this will shall be at her disposal. And at the death of my said wife all the property hereby devised and bequeathed her as aforesaid or so much thereof as may then remain unexpended shall be divided among my Children as follows. First Fifty Dollars to each of my three sons viz Levi Mead, Leander Mead and Lewis S. Mead and to the heirs of my deceased daughter Dorcas Campbell as follows, fifty dollars to the youngest Stephen M. Campbell and ten dollars to each of the others Darius Campbell, Robert Campbell and Peter N Campbell and furthermore be it understood that the heirs of the said Dorcas Campbell are not to come into possession of the above named legacies until after the decease of my wife Hannah and not until said Heirs shall become twenty one years of age. And the remainder of my whole Estate above mentioned after satisfying the above named legacies shall at the decease of my wife Hannah be equally divided among my children now living namely Laura Wilbor, Olive Van Dusen, Ann Eliza Van Dusen, Levi Mead, Lovinia Mead, Mariah Mead, Martha Mead, Leander Mead, and Lewis S. Mead. I also give and bequeath to my beloved wife Hannah Mead all my Real Estate lying and being in the town of Mt. Washington county of Berkshire State of Massachusetts which shall be hers and at her disposal and ??actly? I hereby constitute and appoint De. Morris Pratt and my said son Levi Mead to be the Executors of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and satisfying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereon I hereunto set my hand this Eighth day of December AD 1835. X Mark (Proof) Attest. C.B. Stickney. The State of Ohio, Huron County (SS) We Demorris Pratt & James Burn, who being duly sworn in open Court this 13, day of Oct. AD 1851 depose and say that we were present at the execution of the last will and testament Stephen Mead dec� hereunto annexed that we saw the said Testator subscribe said will & heard him publish and declare the same to be his last will and Testament and that the said Testator at the time of executing the same was of full age and of sound mind and memory and not under any restraint and that I the said James Burn signed the same as a witness at his request and in his presence and in the presence of Henry Morgan who signed the same at his request and in the presence of DeMorris Pratt and I the said De Morris Pratt do further say that I was present but did not see said Henry Morgan sign said will as a witness but that his signature thereto so ?????? written by him is his genuine signature and that the said Henry Morgan has become deceased since the execution of said will. D M. Pratt. James Burn Sworn to and subscribed in open Court the 13th day of Oct. 1851 Geo. S. Tambling Dept. Clk. (Order) The last will and Testament of Stephen Mead late of Fitchville in said County deceased was this day produced in Court and James Burn one of the subscribing witnesses to said will appeared in open Court and on oath Testified to the due execution of said Will also appeared in open Court De. M Pratt and Testified to the signature of Henry Morgan the other subscribing witness who has since deceased and that he was present at the Execution of said will and testified to the due execution of said will which said testimony was reduced to writing and by them respectively subscribed and filed with said will and it appearing from said testimony that said will was duly attested ?????? ????? and that said testator at the time of Executing the same was of Full age and of sound mind and memory and not under any restraint. This ordered by the Court that said will and testimony be recorded whereupon De Morris Pratt and Levi Mead the Executors in said will ????? appeared in open Court and signified their acceptance of the ?????? of Executing said will This therefore ordered that Letters Testamentary be passed to them on giving bond in the sum of 600$ with Isaac Prayor & Philander Au????/ their sureties conditioned according to law the Court appoint Z Green, Hezekiah Johnson, Seth Weeks ????????? the widow Elect to take ??????? the will.

Know all men by these present, that I Leman Vandeusen, of the town of Egremont, in the County of Berkshire, and State of Massachusetts, do hereby constitute and apoint Ezra Vandeusen, of said Egremont, my true and lawful Attorney. for me and in my name, to demand recover, sue for and receive from any and all persons whatever, all sums of money and debts due to me, from the Estate of my Grandfather, Stephen Mead, late of Huron County in the State of Ohio, and all claims and demands due there from, or coming to me, as an heir at Law of said Deceased and to give + execute all necessary deeds, and acquittances, therefore, and to adjust settle and compound all debts or demands due to me, and to institute proper suits for the recoverey thereof, and the same to pursue to final judgment and exectution, and I hereby ratify and confirm what my said Attorney shall lawfully do in the premises. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this tenth day of April A.D. 1856.

Know all men by these present, that Mr Ezra Vandeusen and Leman Vandeusen, in consideration of One Hundred Dollars received to our full satisfaction of Lewis Mead, his heirs and assignees forever all our title, interest and Estate, legal and Equitable do hereby remise, release and forever quit claim unto the said Lewis Mead. The following premises with the appurtenance, situated in the third (3rd) Section of Fitchville township, Huron County Ohio, described as follows (vis) all our interest in the Estate of Stephen Mead (Deceased) late of the township & County aforesaid. The testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hand and seals. this 8th day of May 1856.
