Zachariah CODDINGTON 178
General Notes: A Zachariah Coddington appears on the 1790 (3 Jan 1791) census in Wallkill, Ulster Co., New York, on the same page with Joseph, Benjamin, and Richard Coddington. Joseph and Benjamin were sons of Christopher. It is reasonable although not proven that Zachariah may have also been Christopher's son, born during their stay in Pennsylvania. The only other possibility, other than an unknown family absent from all records, would be Thomas Coddington 1712, but evidence suggests he died before 1775, and although his sons were in Orange Co., in 1790, they were in Newburgh, not Wallkill. 4561 Noted events in his life were: • Fact: "bought" the poor man Edward Barber, 27 Apr 1773, Kingston, Ulster Co., New York, USA. 4562 "Agreed at town meeting this sixth day of April, 1773, that it shall be an instruction to the overseers of the poor for the future, that when any person shall apply to them for maintenance, that they, by advertisement affixed in three or more public palces, give notice that such poor persons, are to be boarded out to such persons as will take them for the lowest reward, together with the benefit of their labor, etc., at a certain day and place appointed for that purpose, and that such persons that are accepted as standing poor shall have the letter P affixed on their left shoulder. • Fact: mentioned in town records, 1768-1778, Wallkill, Orange Co., New York, USA. 4563 Until 1772, Wallkill was part of Montgomery. • He appeared on the census on 3 Jan 1791 in Wallkill, Orange Co., New York, USA. 178 Males: 1 >16 (Zachariah), 2 < 16 (unexplained). Females: 2 (unexplained). |
