• His obituary was published in Feb 1897 in Woodbridge, Middlesex Co., New Jersey, USA. 2303 Captain Randolph Coddington died at his residence on Freeman Street Sunday [31 Jan 1897], aged 85 years & 10 months. Was Judge of Elections and also served on the Woodbridge Board of Freeholders. He was born in this township, the eldest son of the late William Inslee Coddington and Christiana Crowell Coddington. His father was a farmer and mariner and carreid supplies to American troops at Sandy Hook in the war of 1812. His grandfather, Robert Coddington, served in the Revolutionary War 12 [sic] years, and was twice wounded and was crippled for life. Randolph Coddington, whose wife died a few months ago, is survived by 6 children -- Mrs. Samuel Stoothoff, Mrs. Charlotte Mawbey, Wm. R. Coddington, Samuel Coddington, Mrs. John F. Lee, Miss Emily Coddington, Mrs. C. M. Fink and Mrs. Allice Jacques. His daughter, Mrs. William Valentine, died a number of years ago. He is survived also by his brother Joseph, of Elizabeth, the last survivor of his generation. Other brothers and sisters were Mrs. James Clarkson, Mrs. William H. Berry, Mrs. Warren Drummond, James, John, and Robert, all deceased. Interment will be in Alpine Cemetery."
