General Notes: William and his brother Charles went to California during the gold rush. William bought a piece of property in Angels Camp, CA, on Aug 5, 1862, for $2,000. In September 1865 he sold most of that property back to the person he bought it from for $1,000. He then sold his property to his wife Petra G. Coddington for $5.00. At that point Petra owned that property, another property with house, barns, animals and a Gold mine. When Petra died in 1873 William and family moved to San Francisco. When he died there in 1888, his son James was the administrator of the estate. James and his sister Mary Florence were to share the two parcels of land in Angels Camp, 7 large pieces of land in San Francisco, and one in Oakland, CA. Also, in the will, William left to Francis D. Rice, one third, and to Marietta R. Gray, Lewis C. Rice and James Rice collectively, two thirds of the lots, pieces or parcels of land situated in the Co. of Tulare, CA. Birthplace recorded as New York. • He appeared on the census on 29 Jun 1870 in Copperopolis, Calaveras Co., California, USA. 1005 • He worked as a "without employ" on 29 Jun 1870 in Copperopolis, Calaveras Co., California, USA. 1005 William married Petra G. Ca 1851 in , , California, USA.726 (Petra G. was born in 1831 in Chihuahua, , Chihuahua, México, died on 20 Jun 1873 and was buried in Angels Camp, Calaveras Co., California, USA.) |
