Aurora Pioneer Passes Away at Home Saturday

Andrew Anderson, 78, died at his home in Aurora Saturday, after a short illness.

Mr. Anderson was born in Denmark November 19, 1855, and immigrated to America in 1863. He was one of the pioneers of Aurora, settling there in 1876. He was one of the foremost leaders in fostering irrigation projects in Aurora. He assisted in making the first canal, now known as the Willow Bend canal. He was one of the early musicians who made pioneer life lighter by his music. He was a successful farmer and stock raiser. Always looked upon as an honest and upright man, his many friends frequently came to him for advise.

Mr. Anderson married Mary Colby, and to them were born six daughters and three sons. His wife, two daughters and one son preceded him in death. The son and daughters surviving are Mrs. Alfred Curtis, Mrs. Delbert Harward, Mrs. James C. Taylor, Andrew L. Anderson of Aurora, Mrs. J. L. Shepherd of Salina, and Ardie Anderson of Salt Lake. Surviving also are 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Aurora ward hall Tuesday afternoon, with Bishop Leland Lazenby conducting. Speakers were Jas. M. Peterson of Richfield, Patriarch Moroni Lazenby of Aurora, and Edwin Sorensen. Musical numbers were furnished by the ward choir, in addition to a vocal quartet by Royal and Ken Harward, Wallen and LaVell Christensen. The invocation was by Samuel Gurr; the benediction by Gerald Mason.

Interment was in the Aurora cemetery. John Christensen dedicated the grave.

He was buried in the Aurora City Cemetery at Aurora, Sevier County, Utah He has Ancestral File Number 1MMK-QF.

Mrs Isabel Anderson Colby, wife of Barrett Coffyn Colby, an executive of Remington, Rand, Inc., machinery manufacturers, died yesterday in her home at Goodhill Road, Westport, Conn., after a long illness. Her age was 60.

Born in New York, a daughter of Byron Wall and Mary Irwin Anderson, she had formerly been active in social affairs in New Rochelle, N. Y., where she had lived for many years.

Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, William Barrett Colby of Westport, and Lieut. Henry Anderson Colby, U. S. M. C.; a daughter, Mrs. Isabel Colby Rogalin of Westport; two brothers, William Ashley Anderson of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Jack Anderson of Westport; a sister, Miss Mary I. Anderson of New York, and four grandchildren.
