Katherine M. (Zarella) Colby, 77, a lifelong resident of Beverly, wife of the late Herbert A. Colby Jr., died December 4, 2004, at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Elizabeth (Clarizia) Zarella.
Mrs. Colby enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid supporter of the Native American Indians and their culture.
She is survived by: three sons, Herbert A. Colby III and his wife, Wendy, of Newburyport, Michael J. Colby and Daniel P. Colby, both of Beverly; three daughters, Suzan M. Colby and her fianc‚, Michael Gagnon, of Lynn, Marie E. Rivers and Jennifer A. Colby, both of Beverly; one brother, James P. Zarella of Beverly; two sisters, Marion Parisella and Carolyn Walker, both of Beverly; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Kathleen Colby; and sister of the late Peter Zarella.
Her funeral service was held December 8 from the Campbell Funeral Home of Beverly. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Janet L. Zody Taft died Monday, March 15, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Taft, a former resident of Lexington, Ohio, retired to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1986. Prior to her retirement, she worked for many years as the supervisor of surgery at Peoples Hospital in Mansfield. Mrs. Taft graduated in 1950 from Perrysville High School. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Ashland, Ohio in 1953. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Taft is survived by her children, Mindy Zody Dowling of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Laurie Zody Aurand of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael A. Zody of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Adam Brumm; her mother, Eleanor Postle Brumm; her brother, Walter Brumm; and husband, Eugene Taft.
She will be buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Perrysville, Ohio, later in the spring.
