ON THE BARQUE "SLAINS CASTLE"

Departed London Sept. 28th. 1850, Gravesend 1st. Oct 1850

Arrived Port Phillip 25th. Jan 1851 and Port Adelaide 21st. Feb, 1851

First sailing of members of  the Family Colonisation Loan Society which was originated by Mrs. Caroline Chisholm

Compiled from the list of names contained in Mr A.L. Whitby's diary (1), the Melbourne Argus newspaper list of passenger arrivals (2), the Adelaide newspaper list of passengers who travelled on to South Australia (3) and an official but only partial list (4).

  1. Mr. Whitby's entire diary was  published as part of an article authored by Allan Hillier in the The Genealogist magazine issue December 1981volume 111, No. 8, page 251. The magazine is published quarterly by the  Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies Inc and copies are available at some  libraries and genealogical societies. The AIGS is also able to photocopy the article on request, email this address.
