BRAINERD, David, Rev. [1718-1747] -- American missionary

Missionary among the Seneca and Delaware Indians (1744-1747) of New York, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania, he was born in Connecticut in 1718, and died of tuberculosis at the age of twenty-nine in 1747. His mentor, the great ¤Jonathan Edwards, preached his funeral sermon and published the diary which David had kept.
He was the older brother of missionary ¤John Brainerd,
who continued his work when he died.
