GILLESPIE, Emily Hawley Her journals, faithfully written from her twentieth birthday until shortly before her death 30 years later,
recorded in some 2500 pages a unique account of rural Iowa life from the perspective of a farmer's wife.
These journals are condensed in Judy Nolte Lensink's 1989 book,
A Secret to Be Buried: The Diary and Life of Emily Hawley Gillespie, 1858-1888.
