Obituary* | 9 January 1912 | "Citizens were shocked and startled on Tuesday evening last when the sudden death of Robert L. Romcke was announced. Deceased was in the employ of the freight department of the P.E. Island Railway and on Tuesday was in his usual health and on duty. In the evening after a day's work, he went home and was about to sit down to supper when he fell to the floor. A doctor was immediately sent for but before he could arrive Mr. Romcke had passed away. Death was due to heart failure. Deceased was one of the best known and most deservedly esteemed of our citizens. For some years he was an employee in the store of the late R.T. Holman, afterwards going into the wholsale produce business on his own account. Later he accepted the position in the Railway Department, which he occupied until the day of his death. He was an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and was for many years one of its principle officials. In every walk of life and in every duty undertaken he was an ideal citizen, scrupulously honest and straightforward. He was sixty-four years of age and leaves to mourn his wife, and one son, Louis, of Godkin Brothers, and one daughter, Miss Grace of Winnipeg. To the sorrowing family, so suddenly bereaved, we tender heartfelt sympathy."; Dau/Parent=Louis Robert Romcke, Dau/Parent=Grace Potter Romcke, Spouse=Margaret McGowan Ellis18 |
