Obituary of J. M. Allen

James M. Allen Rites Saturday -- hand written Feb. 9, 1967 

  James Malcolm Allen, 80, retired grocery merchant of Pinson, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he had been a patient for the past five days.

  Mr. Allen was born in Hardin County on  Feb. 8, 1887.  His parents were the late M. J. and Adeline Storey Allen.  For several  years he continued to make his home in Hardin County and in 1910 was married to Miss Mattie Ethel Swift.  He had also made his home in Missouri and Arkansas.  While living at Truman, Ark., he was an employee of the Singer Sewing Machine Co.  In 1945 he moved to Pinson where he operated a grocery store until his retirement in 1962.  His wife preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 1952.

  Mr. Allen was one of the organizers and a charter member of the Pinson Church of Christ.

 He is survived by two sons, Howard Allen of Folsom, La., and James Allen of Memphis; two daughters, Mrs. James Leo Watson of Pinson, and Mrs. Floyd Tanner of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Mrs. Ollie White  of Bath Springs; four grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.

  Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lanier Funeral Home with C. P. Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Big Springs Cemetery near Pinson.

  Pallbearers will be W. C. Weaver, Jeff Cochran, Joe Tedford, Joe Newton, Sam Daniels, and Jimmy D. Smith.

  The body will be at the funeral home.
