Funeral service for Mr. James Elton Winslow, Sr., 90, will be held
Thursday, August 22, 2002, at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen
Funeral Home with Dr. Don Thrasher and Rev. Bill McClarin officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr. Winslow died Monday afternoon, August 19th,
2002, at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born in the Browns Community of Madison County June
12, 1912, the son of the late Willie N. and Ollie Russell Winslow.
Mr. Winslow attended high school in the Browns Community and graduated
from Lambuth College. He was Manager of the Jackson Clinic and retired in 1978
after twenty eight years of service. Mr.
Winslow was a life member of the American Association of Clinic Managers and a
former member of B.P.O. Elks #192. He
was a long time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church before
moving his membership to Northside United Methodist Church where he was a
member of the Pacers Sunday School Class. Mr. Winslow was preceded in death in 1983 by his wife, Eloise
Williams Winslow. Survivors include one son, Dr. James E. Winslow, Jr. and wife
Sue of Chickasha, OK.; a
daughter, Barbara June Wamble and husband Don of
Jackson; two brothers, Earl Winslow of Jackson and Edward Winslow of
Memphis; a sister, Elaine Travers of Jackson; four grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Pallbearers to serve will be James E. Winslow, III,
Robert W. Winslow, Chris Swindle, Rick Anderson, Billy Joe Winslow and
Jack May. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Baskette, Ed Tate, Leo
Martindale and Dr. John Shaw. The family requests that any memorials be directed to
Northside United Methodist Church Music Ministry of Lambuth University.
They would also like to ask that the members of the Pacers Sunday School
Class sit in a group for the service. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home this
evening from 5:00 until 8:00
