Obituary of Janet Pierce

 

Janet King Pierce, PINSON

Funeral services for Mrs. Janet King Pierce, 87, will be held at the Chapel of Casey Funeral Home on Saturday at 4:00 PM with Rev. Harold Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in the Five Points Community.

Mrs. Pierce died on May 17, 2006 at the Northbrooke Healthcare in Jackson, Tennessee.

Mrs. Pierce was born September 10, 1918 in Mason Wells to the late Jess and Kate David King, who preceded her in death.

She was a devoted member of the Big Springs Methodist Church, the Diamond Grove Ruritan Club, and the Home Demonstration Club.

Mrs. Pierce loved people, and her greatest joy was doing for other people. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake cakes and deliver to all church members and friends in her community. She also loved to play cards and go fishing. She worked for years at the Jackson Garment Factory.

She married Willie Pierce in December, 1935, who preceded her in death May, 1985, only five months before their Golden Anniversary.

She was preceded in death by her loving son, Frank Pierce, June 2002; two sisters, Inell Dean and Mildred Penrod; one brother, Johnny King; a granddaughter, Ronda Staples Stafford, May, 2005 and a son-in-law, Dr. Charles (Pete) Staples, October, 1977.

She is survived by her children, Jimmy, aka Crazy Pierce (Betty) of Jackson, Travis, aka Rabbit (Sherry) of Pinson, Hazel Pierce Staples, Peggy (Keith) Tomes of Jackson, and Ramona (Kerry) Pounds of Pinson. She was cherished by fourteen grandchildren, Burt (Jan) Staples of Collierville, TN, Marty (Joni) Pierce of Olive Branch, MS, Joey (Ratty) Pierce of Bartlett, TN, Tim Tomes of Nashville, TN, Reggie Pierce of Jackson, Billy Pierce of Pinson, Lowell (Amanda) Beller of Jackson, Sonja Staples Drews of Jackson, Sherry Staples Caforio of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa (Doug) Joiner of Memphis, TN, Kelly (Pat) Hatch of Pinson, Melissa Beller (Will) Smith of Jackson and Monica Beller (Brian) Hammons of Medon and eight step-grandchildren, Johnny Johnson of Jackson, Greg Bray of Atlanta, GA, Jimmy Bray of Memphis, Paul and Keith Tomes of Memphis, Nikki Fesmire of Jackson and Alana and Shelby Lipford of Pinson.

Mrs. Pierce is also survived by a loving brother, James T., aka Tommy King (Peggy) and his family of Phoenix, AZ and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons.
