Wilbourn(e) Cemetery

I really do not know what to call this cemetery.

Some said it was the Willbourne Cemetery.

I do not find the cemetery on the 1870 plat map (See map below) and there is only the one stone.

It is down a lane off the left side of 200th Street, in Section 28 of Marion Township.

Take 218 north of Mount Pleasant and turn left (west) down 200th Street.

There will be a big white house on the right side of the road.

Turn down the lane on the other side of the road and look at the terraces on the north side of the lane.

This stone was not found back in the 1980s but in an area were there was believed to be a cemetery.

Two stones on a terrace a short distance down the lane across road from Chad White.

I looked on 1854 census and the plat maps for 1870 and 1857. I did not find Dambrum but did find Zachariah Wilbourn, in the 1854 census with three males and four females. Where he lived is shown on the 1870 map below.

This is portions of section 20, 21, 22, 29, 28, and 27. I scoured the map for crosses and the only good possibilities are right above the red x in land adjoining Z Willburn in the SW 1/4 of section 22. Z Wilbourn's land is in the SE 1/4 of section 21. Lewis Farmer is to the left of him and Lewis Farmer also has land in section 28. If you use your imagination their might be a cross in Farmer's section 28 land. I did not mark because I did not want to make up a possible cross. If I can place the location of the stone we saw against this map it would be on the Lewis Farmer section 28 land. But then the stone and foot stone may have been moved.

From information sent me by Jim Jensen [email protected] and Larry Kinney [email protected], I can add the following concerning the family. Zachariah Wilbourn was reported to be the first settler in Marion township. He is said to have fathered 21 children by three wives. Lewis Farmer who owned the land adjourning was Zach's brother-in-law. Zach's first wife, Eleanor (Ellen), died in 1840 and was buried in the family cemetery. He married his second wife Eliza S. M. Young,   May 24, 1848, date of death unknown, reportedly in childbirth and Zachariah married Eliza Baker March 29, 1853, so it was before this marriage. Eliza is suppose to be buried in this cemetery and Zachariah who died September 14, 1879, is reported buried there. The cemetery was suppose to be on pasture land of Lewis Farmer. The child's stone above is believed to be that of Zachariah's granddaughter. Zachariah's daughter Sophia Margaret (Maggie) married John Domenique Dambran, 14 Oct 1856. The Dambrum's later moved to the Des Moines, Iowa area. In 1860 Dominic Dombrow, Stonecutter, 29, born France with wife Sophia, age 20, born Iowa and two daughters Florence age three and Brittona 7/12. They are listed next to Matthew and Matilda Wilson; Matilda is the oldest child of Zachariah. The below on the family was sent to me by Larry Kinney. Check with him before you copy or use.
