JENKS PIONEER PROFILES

Webster's Dictionary tells us that the meaning of the word, "pioneer" is "one who goes before to prepare the way for others." While most of us would conjure up in our minds pictures of buckskin-shirted, raccoon-tail-capped trailblazers tramping the countryside in the days of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, that popular characterization would limit us in the true meaning of the word.

Pioneers, in the truest sense, are people who lead the way in uncharted waters or territories. A person who has that certain "something", whether it be advanced years and with those years a gained experience, an adventurous spirit, a willing heart, a gifted mind or other talents that help to shape the future of those following after them. A true pioneer seems somehow to bring the best out of those around them. They instill hope and strength and keep dreams alive.

The following profiles are of true pioneers. Pioneers that have made Jenks, America (Oklahoma) their home, and have, in their own ways, made a difference. To our local pioneers are these pages dedicated.
