Pierre found himself in the military apparently against his will and taken on an expedition to French Guiana. Evidently on 13 July 1717 while visting his brother-in-law he visited a ship moored in Rochefort and was conscripted as a sailor by force, just a few days prior to the birth of his son, Jean. He spent the next eight months in the barracks on l'ile d'Orlron. He left for Guyana 15 Mar. 1718 on board the "Comte de Courson". In a letter dated 24 Apr. 1719 from Cayenne to Governor Claude Guillouet d'Orvilliers he asked to be freed from this involuntary military obligation so he could return to his wife and attend to his affairs. In the letter he gave details of his origins and his family. He was released from the service, after an investigation, at the beginning of 1720.(1) We later find Pierre Ringuet dit Cayenne et dit Delaunay in the artillery company of Francois Pierre Rigaud de Vaudreuil where he was hospitalized for the first time at the Hotel-Dieu in Qubec on 20 Sept. 1722. Pierre settled in Baie Saint-Paul with his family where he was a farmer and a miller.
