May 27, 1831
Died at his residence in this county, on the 17th inst. in the 81st year of his age, Mr. Leonard Morris, after a long and painful illness. Mr. Morris was one of the first settlers in the Valley of Kanawha, and was extensively known and respected.

Norris S. Whitaker, aged eighty three years, who was the first white child born in the city limits of Charleston, was killed by the shifting engine at the Kanawha and Ohio yard this afternoon about 4 o'clock. All the wheels passed over the middle of his body.
