ADAMS

 

Alexander Adams married Mary Coffin sister of Tristnam, by occupation a shipwright was freeman in 1648 and also member of the Ancient Honorable Artillery Company os Massachuset. He lived in Dorchester and Boston. His daughter Mary born January 19, 1641, married Caleb Stratton.

Alexander Adams resided at Dorchester and bought property at Merry Point which was originally owned by Walter Merry who gave his name to the point in 1646. Alexander Adams was allowed to wharf out maintaining along the shore a highway now Commercial St. In 1652 moved to Boston and from 1655 to 1661 held office as Water Bailyffe. At a meeting of the selectmen March 27, 1661 they declared "Whereas Alex. Adams hath taken up an Anchor on ye Flatts wch having been cried and no owner appears. It is ordered yt ye so anchor shall be d’d to ye Towns Treasurer and ye Water Bayliffe shall ½ ye sd anchor if next owned".

He was first sergeant of the Artillery Company in 1656 and member of 1st Church of Boston in 1668. In the settlement of Alexander Adams estate in 1684, his son-in-law, Caleb Stratton, was to have the homestead.
