FRENCH, GEORGE

George French (d.), was born in Hampshire, England, and died in 1873, age 82.

He came to Canada in 1847, and settled in Peel Township. He was a Methodist and a very strong Conservative, taking a great interest in the affairs of the party.

He married Rebecca Hobbs, born in England, who died in 1887, age 81. Issue: James, Frederick Charlotte, in Parry Sound; Mrs. John Moore, Man.; Benjamin, Phoebe (d.) ; Isaac and Henry, all born in Canada. James, married Mary Keating, is a farmer in the N.W. Issue: Ada, Frederick, George H., May, James, Sarah, William and Louis. Frederick has been twice married. His first wife was Elizabeth Kitchen. Issue: Frederick and Melinda. Later he married Jemima North (d.). Issue: William, Warren and Ethel.

Benjamin, m. Margaret Beaton, settled in Parry Sound. Issue: Benjamin and Reuben.

Isaac was born in Beverley Tp. He resides on his farm of 100 acres, lot 15, con 16. He carries on mixed farming, and feeds a great many cattle, and breeds general purpose horses. He has a fine farm and good buildings, and has acquired all his property by his own industry and perseverance. He is a good citizen, quiet and unassuming in manner.

In religion he is a Methodist and a Conservative in politics. He married Jane A. Farrelly, daughter of John Farrelly, the old Peel pioneer. Issue: Mrs.. Alex. E. Blackwell, Mrs. William J. R. Bucke, Charlotte G., Augustus G. A., Adolphus J. E. and Robert N.,H.

Henry, married Rosie Welch, and setttled in Michigan. �
