Abiji Stone, late of Wellesley, was b. in Simcoe County, in 1818, and d. at the age of 78. He was of English descent, and owned a small farm in Gwillimbury.

With a large family to provide for, it became necessary to look for a wider field of labor; accordingly in 1848 he purchased 285 acres in Wellesley Tp., and 115 in Peel Tp. The land at that time was worth $500 per lot, and is now valued at $28,000.

Mr. Stone was always active in every work that pertained to the welfare of his neighbors, and his country. He was one of the pioneers whose name is worthy of a place with the nation builders of Canada. He took a great interest in church affairs, and was Steward and Trustee of the Methodist church for many years. In political views he was a Liberal. He m. Mary Landerkin, who d. at the age of 80. Issue: Mrs. John Cadwell (d.), John, in Perth Co.; James H., in Peel; Mrs. A. Cunningham; in Wellesley Tp.; George, in Wellesley, on the old homestead, and Mr. Stone in Wellesley.

James H. Stone was b. in Simcoe Co., in 1845. He is an influential and highly respected man, and is now Postmaster at Winfield in Peel Co. He is a Steward of the Methodist church, and a Liberal in politics. In 1867 he m. Margaret Ruler. Issue: George H., May E., and Ellen A., in N.Y.;

May E. Stone, is a Deaconess in Montreal, and is connected with Edgerton Ryerson's newspaper, the Christian Guardian. She has devoted her life to church work.
