Elayne Gibbons - Pair, Jones, Young, Sechrist, Cherry, Lanier   Pair Place

Barbara Mathews - My 3rd great grandmother Mildred M. Hunt Smith is buried in Lowell cemetery.  Her daughter was Alice Mary Smith who married A. B. Walls and is also buried there.  I have a document which states she lived in Lowell (1896-1898 and before).  This is an application for a pension on the Civil War service of her son John Kelly Smith who died in 1866 of health problems he incurred while serving in the Civil War (in Missouri).  It includes a doctors assessment of her health (very bad) and deponents Z. T. Jones of Lowell, and Samuel Sink of OK, et al.   She died June of 1898 at Lowell.  She never lived long enough to receive a pension.  Though the family lived in Missouri from 1840 until 1870 (census records), her husband Jacob Hacker Smith died in Crawford Co., AR in 1862 according to the application.  He was probably down there looking for work or perhaps land.  Her children brought her to Texas sometime in 1874, but I cannot find her in a census anywhere in 1880.
She had another daughter, Sarah Ellen Smith who married a John H. Hunt, born in IL. married in Missouri, and they also came to TX.  I do not know if they are buried in the Lowell Cem., they did live in Eastland County, too.  My guess is they probably are buried there.  John H. Hunt is likely a relative of Mildred H. Hunt Smith.  She was born in Virginia in 1821, but lived in Illinois in 1830 census.  Three son's of Jake and Millie Hunt Smith lived in Comanche County, TX, but a grandson purchased land from A. B. Walls and wife Alice in Eastland Co., TX.  His name was also Jacob H. Smith, his father was Samuel Jacob Smith.
My direct line is her son David Henry Smith; he lived in Texas a short time, then went back to Missouri.  I have a photo of him if you are interested.  A distant cousin I just connected with has a photo of David's sister, Alice Mary Smith Walls.
