Long Resident Dies in Hospital in Santa Rosa
David E. Dumas, 71, died in a Santa Rosa hospital, where he was confined for several months. A native of Arkansas, he had spent practically all his life in Healdsburg where he was well known. The family home was on North Street. The survivors are a widow, Mrs. Delpha Dumas, and the following children: Donald and Lloyd Dumas, Los Angeles; Delancy Dumas, Mrs. Agnes Frost, Viva Dumas, Healdsburg; Irvin Dumas, Berkeley and Mrs. G. H. Dewey, Oakland.
According to David's daughter Agnes Frost David was known throughout Sonoma County as a gifted horticulturalist. People sought his help from all over with grafting plants. His son Marion apparently had also inherited the talent for this work.

1st Baptist Church by Rev. GrayMarriage Notes (Delpha Laveda Hilton)
Minnie Parsons and David Dumas seperated in April 1909 according to the divorce documents. Her mother, Cynthia Cast died in December 1908 without a will. Minnie's sister, Josephine Austin, and her husband Loyd Austin petitioned the courts to probate her estate. The estate was divided equally between the two sisters and then Josephine gave her portion to Minnie. Minnie promptly left David after that, taking her infant daughter Agnes with her but leaving her four sons behind. The courts later granted David a divorce, which Minnie did not contest, and gave him custody of the four boys and Minnie custody of Agnes. Agnes lived with her mother and stepfather until Minnie's death in 1920. 109 110 111
A search for the marriage record of David and Delphia Hilton Dumas was requested 9/24/2001 from the State of California Vital Statistics. Search period 1910-1916. Checked on status 25 October 2002, they are still searching for the record. {Search #2001086849.} After the new law passed in California, Vital Statistics has returned my check and says that they don't have time to research it. I will have to go through each individual county as of April 2004.
