    Evelyn Scroggin

    MOUNT PULASKI - Evelyn S. Scroggin, 88, of Mount Pulaski died at 815 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at her home.

    Mrs. Scroggin, formerly of Edinburg and Alhambra, taught junior and senior high school Latin and English in the Edinburg School District many years before her retirement.

    She attended Augustana University in 1929, and graduated from Wartburg College in Iowa in 1932.

    She was a member of Edinburg United Methodist Church and its Fidelis Class and the National Woman's Association.

    She was born Sept. 12, 1910, in Rarton, a daughter of Forrest Leigh and Maude Christina Victoria Roseberg Dice. She married Hubert N. Scroggin Aug. 24, 1945 in Illiopolis. He died May 5, 1994.

    Survivors include two daughters, Leah Kyle of St. Louis, and Carolyn Lloyd of Winter Haven, Fla.; one sister, Iola Peterson of Edinburg; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Edinburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Erik Thompson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Steenbergen Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.

    Visitation will be an hour before the service Tuesday.

    Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

    Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mount Pulaski, is in charge of arrangements.

    Hazel M. Burris

    Hazel Marie Burris, 84, of 311 North Lafayette, Mt. Pulaski, passed away April 27, 1978 at 3 p.m. at the Vonderlieth Living Center.

    She was born Dec. 25, 1893 in Mt. Pulaski Township, Illinois, a daughter of John Henry and Mary Agnes Scroggin Clendenen. She married William Burris Dec. 25, 1917 in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois and he passed away April 30, 1965.

    She is survived by a son, Franklin Wilham, Mt. Pulaski, Il.; brother-in-law, Ellis Quandt, R. R. Mt. Pulaski, Il.; two nephews and one niece; and four grandchildren.

    She was a member of Mt. Pulaski Christian Church and was Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.

    Funeral services were held at 130 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at Fricke Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski, with Rev. Al Morehead and Charles Webb officiating. Burial was in Steenbergen Cemetery.

    Casketbearers were Don Baker, John McCain, George McGee, Charles Holmes, Tom Davis, and Oliver Diez.

    EX-LOGAN RESIDENT DIES IN ROCK ISLAND

    MT. PULASKI , Dec. 17 - Mr. and Mrs. Frank Copeland, East Cook Street, received word on Wednesday evening telling of the death of their aunt, Mrs. H. M. Scroggin, which occurred in her home in Rock Island at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, Dec. 16, 1931. She had been ill for the past year with a complication of ailments.

    Funeral services will be held in the family home in Rock Island and the body will arrive in Mt. Pulaski on Friday afternoon, Dec. 18. It will be taken to the Copeland home where the remains can be viewed. Later in the afternoon burial will be made in Steenbergen cemetery.

    Mrs. Lucy Talbert Scroggin, who was born at Latham some 60 years ago, leaves her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Becker, Rock Island, and Mrs. Lawrence Snyder, Omaha; and one son, Maple Scroggin, Kearney, Neb. Surviving also are six grandchildren, one sister, and two brothers.
