    Mother of local woman is dead

    Mrs. Mary I. Scroggins, 58 years old, of Springfield, died on Monday, August 16 at St.

    John's Hospital. She was a former resident of Pawnee and the mother of Mrs. Janet Denning [40250:K]of Petersburg.

    Mrs. Scroggins was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky, and has been a resident of Springfield

    most of her life. Her husband [40237:K] preceded her in death on June 13, 1969.

    Surviving are three sons, Donald Ray [42792:K], Walter Lee [40236:K], and John

    Robert [40249:K], all of Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Denning of Petersburg and Mrs. Bonnie Jean Ward [40252:K] of Pawnee; father Perry Nunn of

    Virden; one sister, Mrs. Drucilla Dinardo of Springfield; twenty-one grandchildren; one

    great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 100 p.m. at Vancil Memorial

    Chapel in Springfield. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.

    PAWNEE - Bonnie Jean Ward, 69, a resident of Pawnee for most of her life, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center.

    She was born April 17, 1938, in Springfield, the daughter of Ray S. and Mary Ida Nunn Scroggins. She married Homer L. Ward on Dec. 24, 1952; he preceded her in death in 1985. Her parents, two brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Ward was a homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed baby-sitting.

    Surviving are four daughters, Kathleen S. Ward of Pawnee, Anna Marie (husband, Keith) Fry of Panama City, Fla., Rebecca J. Ward of Springfield and Janna R. Denning of Pawnee; stepson, Larry D. Ward of Moberly, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John Robert (wife, Emily) Scroggins of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.

    Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
