Eliza Jane and her husband Alfonza "Alley" were married at the home of her parents, witnessed by: J.W. Barnhill and C.A. Barnhill.
Eliza taught children along Black River. James Bradbury Horrell's family was one group. Eliza stayed with them during the week - went home on the weekend. They lived on the Pender County side of Black River, near Squalling Bluff.
Eliza Jane and Allie were 2nd cousins.
I remember going to their home outside Atkinson. They had a garden and I particularly remember being there and picking strawberries and Aunt Eliza pouring cold cream on them. They were so good.
