"Richard Terry was born in England about 1618. A Mrs. Chates gave his date of birth as Aug. 17, 1618 and referred to the Yates-Terry Genealogy by Josephine C. Frost (Mrs. Samuel Knapp Frost). He died on his farm at Quashaneck, Southold, Long Island, about May, 1676. His will, dated July 6, 1675, named his five sons and and five daughters and his brother, Thomas. It designated his wife Abigail (Lines, Lyne or Linde) Terry as executrix and his son Gershom as executor.
Richard Terry sailed from London on the ship "James" on July 13, 1635, and landed at Salem, Mass. In 1640 he settled in Southold, Long Island, going there from New Haven. He was recorder of Southold Town and "clark" (clerk) of the Court from Oct 3, 1664 until he moved from the village and settled on his farm "Quashaneck" at Corchaug (Cutchogue) in 1672/1673. While recorder he spread upon the town records, the "Bearths" of his children.
