    Pearlie Bently Howell Jr.

    Pearlie Bently Howell Jr., a U.S. Navy veteran, died Tuesday. He was 83.

    Howell, a native and resident of Mobile, retired from Smith's Bakery after 29 years. He later worked for Ideal Cement, now Holcim Inc., and retired after 26 years.

    He attended Murphy High School, where he played football.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. "Dot" Howell of Mobile; six children, Pearlie Bentley Howell III of Pearl River, La., Cynthia Howell Jordan of Bloomingdale, Ill., Ann Howell Pugh of Daphne, and Donna Howell Bush, Susan Howell Damp and Robert J.M. "Robbie" Howell, all of Mobile; one sister, Ida K. Howell of Mobile; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-

    grandchildren.

    Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Three Notch Road. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

    Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals, c/o Abba Temple Shrine, 7701 Hitt Road, Mobile, AL 36695.
