William Hannah was born in Charles County, MD in 1761 according to his application for a Revolutionary War pension. When he was 16 he was part of the drafted militia called to service in the American Revolution. He served for five years. His father had died in 1775. His youngest brother, Townley. was just two when his father died. His mother remarried to Thomas Rigg about the time William got home from his service. The family then moved to Henry County Virginia.
William married Lucy Penn in 1787 when he was 26. His brother Robert moved on to Stokes Co., NC and then in 1806 Robert moved again to Greenup County, KY. Then in 1812 William and Townley Hannah joined their brother in KY. William had 67 acres on the Little Sandy. He seems to have done well. Lucy died sometime before 1825 and William remarried to Judith Woodstock. William died in 1846 at the age of 85.
