The Family Caplinger by Robert D Caplingr, "We believe Leonhard was born around 1688 in or near the village of Cadolzburg. He married Marie Elizabeth around 1712 and shortly thereafter the family moved to the village of Schwaigern.

First appears in the church records when Johannes was baptized June 1, 1713.
Linda Caplinger notes: Church records indicate he had business in Salzburg.

The family set sail for Philadelphia in 1730 aboard the ship "Thistle of Glasgow" arriving in PA on August 29, 1730.  The family then moved to Lancaster County, Pa becoming part of the "Pennsylvania Dutch".    Leonhard took out a warranty for 250 acres of land in Lancaster County, the date of the survey being March 16, 1736, but he failed to complete the title.   Instead they moved to Berks County, PA where he resided for about 20 years.

__PA archives book pg. 585. In 1737 there was surveyed unto Caper Mengall of Lancaster a certain tract of land in Tulpehoccon on the N side of the creek in the town of Heidelberger -- on corner with Leonard Keplinger______________

There is no source for the date or location of Leonhardt's birth. I am not sure where this came from.

SPELLING FROM SHIP LIST:
Leonhart Käpplinger AND Johannes Käpplinger (Johannes would have been about 17 yrs old) arrived at port Philadelphia aboard the ship: Thistle of Glasgow from Palatinate Germany, 29 Aug 1730. Ships master: ColinDunlap from Rotterdam (last from Cowes)

Schwaigern Lutheran Kirsche Buch (Church Book) lists the family as such:
Leonhard Kepplinger and wife Maria Elisabetha:
1.  Johnnes b. 1 June 1713
2.  Joh. Georg b. 27 Feb. 1719
3.Joh. Paul b. 7 Nov. 1721
4.  Joh. Leonhard b. 20 Jan. 1724
5.  Maria Elisabetha b. 17 Mar. 1726
6.  Christian b. 14 May 1728; d. 20 May 1728
There is no proof or records to show that any of this family was born in Schwaigern (according to my personal correspondence with Schwaigern Lutheran Church, November 2007). They were likely transitory, merely living in Schwaigern for a short period. They were not "Citizens" of Schwaigern.

Leonhard tookout a warrant dated Mar. 16, 1736 for 250 acres in Lancaster Co., PA, but failed to complete title.
