     Franklin B. Stout was born on 29 November 1814 in Franklin County, Indiana.^1,2,3 He was the son of (?) Stout. Franklin married Julia Ann Ewin on 7 September 1834 in Union County, Indiana.⁴ Franklin and Julia lived in Fountain County, Indiana for 19 years.³ They had 9 children, only 5 have been entered into this database: Serena, Alice, Margaret, George and John. I also suspect that Jonathan Stout (born circa 1846) is another one of his children but I do not have proof.⁵ Franklin moved to Section 3 of Eldora, Hardin County, Iowa on 6 August 1852. He purchased this land from the government.
          Franklin, age 54, and Julia, age 53, were enumerated on the 1870 Federal Census in Eldora Township, Hardin County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household were several of their children: Serena (age 23), Alice (age 22), Margaret (age 18), George (age 15), and John (age 11). Their oldest child, Jonathan, has his own household.⁵ Franklin worked as a farmer. The 1870 census values his real estate at $6210 and his personal property at $300.⁵ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Franklin, age 66, was enumerated on the 1880 Federal Census in Eldora. Also enumerated in his household were three of his children: George (24 years old), John (21 years old), and Serena Millslagle (30 years old, widowed). Serena's daughter, Maude (1 year old), also lives here.⁶ Franklin worked as a farmer.⁶ Follow the link to see the census image.
